Description
Micromine Nexus allows you to work with a default set of object types, for example, Micromine Data files, Image formats, CAD formats, PDF and Word documents, etc. To facilitate the implementation of your business processes, you can also create "custom" object types.
Object Types and their Attributes are configured globally and selected at the workspace level. When you upload an object, the option to select its object type and set its attribute values is provided.
Note - all object types are customizable except for the Unknown object type. If you do not assign an object type to an object at the time it is uploaded and Nexus is unable to determine a default type based on the file extension of the object, it will be assigned the Unknown object type.
Steps
Creating object types
- On the Navigation menu, click Admin to open the Administration window
- Select the Object Types tab
- Click Create above the list of existing object types
- Enter a unique Name and Description of the object type. Enter a description that will help other users identify the object type. You can also double-click the icon to the right of the name and description to select an icon that will help identify the object type
- Specify one or more file extensions for the object type. After typing an extension press enter to add another
Note - You can use the same file extension for multiple object types, file extensions are not case sensitive, and the DOT prefix is optional (e.g. .dat or dat is acceptable)
- Click on the Attributes tab to populate any attributes that will help identifying and managing the objects you upload. Attributes should not be confused with fields when objects are uploaded to Nexus. (Note - custom attributes are only available for Business and Enterprise tiers)
- For any attributes that you would like to add - simply click the + icon to the corresponding attribute
- Finally, click Create to create the object type. The new object type is added to the existing list of object types on the Object types page
